Since receiving a FACTOR new talent award in 1996, Max Woolaver has continued to write and perform songs of lyrical power and musical grace. As one reviewer wrote: “The audience favourite and the standout performance of the series was Max Woolaver…It was heartening to see such a warm and enthusiastic reception for an artist who was from out of town and completely unknown to the audience prior to the set. The entire room was buzzing with praise for Max’s strong stage performance and moving songs, as well as the exceptional musicianship of the band.” (Amatish Update) Max’s songwriting talent has been recognized by The Bluebird Cafe, Nashville (Pick of the Writer’s Nights), NXNE (twice), Canada Music Week,, Penguin Eggs (“highly recommended”) and FACTOR New Talent award. The band’s live performances never fail to light up the room. Max’s songs draw power and grace from the deep well of the North American roots tradition. The recurring themes of his songs, by turns acerbic and dry, turn us toward the possibilities of a transforming grace. The musicianship of the band deliver these songs with a rare touch which make The Max Woolaver Band a must see for the discerning music fan. |
